There aren’t many things that are more perfect than a newborn baby. Except for two newborn babies! I had the honor of photographing this long time client as they added not one, but two bundles of joy to their family. They were seven weeks old at the time of the session, which is a bit older than I usually prefer for newborns, (the ideal time to schedule a newborn session is during their first two weeks of life, when they are the most sleepy and flexible) but we made it work. Petite Miss A fought off sleep the entire time I was there, despite the heat being cranked up and a sound machine right by her side! Big brother Ben, on the other hand, was out like a light with a full tummy, nestled in a cozy, warm beanbag. So amazing to see those different personalities emerge already! Awake or asleep, they were both perfectly adorable and wonderful to cuddle!

August 15, 2010Keeping with the theme of fun stuff I got to do this summer, I had the opportunity to attend a photography workshop put on by Heather Rivlin in Toronto. It’s a good thing that we’re done having babies in this family, because if I had even the slightest baby craving, this weekend in June would have pushed me over the edge! We got to watch as Heather, the master baby whisperer, molded these adorable, squishy little newborns into the cutest poses. Then once she did all the hard stuff, we got to play baby paparazzi and take lots of pictures! A word of warning – viewing the next few pictures may make some of you want to run out and have a baby right this minute – you’ve been warned…..

Psssstttt….hey Dad! {Yorkville Children’s Photographer}
April 22, 2010Psssstt….hey Dad – word on the street is Mother’s Day is May 9 - less than three weeks away! Three weeks, you say? I’ve got plenty of time to find the perfect gift for my lovely wife, the woman who endured hours of painful physical and/or emotional labor to bear my children! Mmm-hmmmmm…..
We all know how this usually plays out, don’t we? On the evening of May 8, so many husbands and fathers will shudder in horror as the realization dawns upon them that they have forgotten to buy their wives the perfect Mother’s Day present….cue the masses descending upon Target at 9:17 pm, scouring the card aisles amidst the picked over Hallmark greetings, hoping beyond hope for that one gift to jump out at you from it’s place on the shelf, just screaming, “I am the perfect gift – the one that encompasses your feelings of undying love and appreciation for all the sacrifices your wife has made!”
Hmmm….really?? How about we skip that whole ordeal and I make it super easy for you?
Buy your wife a gift certificate for a session with Freespirit Photography! I guarantee that you will not find anything at Target (or any other store) that will be more meaningful than the gift of memories. Trust me on this. Just shoot me an email or give me a call and we’ll get you all set up!
And because I can’t post without a picture, here are some favorites from 2009….
Sweetness {Yorkville Newborn Photographer}
March 14, 2010I have a special place in my heart for this family, as they have two boys who were just joined by a little sister, just like my own family! It has been such a joy the last two years to see the relationship develop between my sons and their baby sister – they are adoring and protective, and love to make her laugh. It’s one of the reasons I was really looking forward to this newborn session – the opportunity to capture the beginning of that special relationship between a little girl and her brothers. That, and the chance to cuddle a new baby that’s not my own!
This darling little girl was just nine days old on the day of the session – the perfect time to capture those sleepy, curled-up shots. With the help of some nursing, my trusty sound machine, and a toasty warm house, she was out like a light!

I have a bit of a weakness for little baby parts, especially those tiny fingers and toes. I mean seriously, could you not just eat those up?
