Before diving into mini-session sneak peeks, which I know quite a few clients are anxiously waiting for – I feel an obligation as a mother to blog about Halloween this year.  Just a few quick words before getting to the fun stuff – the pictures!  It was the first year that our two and a half year old really got into Halloween.  We had been practicing for weeks the whole “trick or treat” routine, while her older brothers felt the need to teach her the whole “trick or treat, smell my feet….” song.  They think it’s hilarious when she says stuff like underwear, fart, poop, you get the drift….. I forced all three to sit on the front porch for the traditional picture before the boys dashed off in a mad sprint from house to house, attempting to fill up their pillowcases with enough candy to rival the nearby Wrigley factory.  That was pretty much the theme of the night, until Miss Ladybug and I retreated to the warmth of our house – where she quickly learned that it is just as fun to hand out candy to trick-or-treaters as it is to trick-or-treat!  These pictures are nothing special – in fact, some of them are downright bad quality-wise, but you take what you get when you’re up against candy-hungry children!

And finally, if there ever needed to be further proof that my six year old son is indeed my child – this is what he chose to do with his Halloween candy the minute he arrived home from school today…..

Just in case it isn’t clear from the picture, he sorted all seven pounds of his candy into piles, then proceeded to make a chart recording the number of pieces in each category.  Ummm….that’s normal, right???

Please forgive the pun in the title of this post – it just had to be done.  I ventured out with my family early yesterday morning for some strawberry picking at  Olive Berry Acres.  Our kids are finally getting to the age (8, 5, and 2) where family outings are a bit more manageable, and dare I say it, even enjoyable! When we arrived at the farm in Mazon, IL, we were greeted by friendly berry enthusiast and owner, Michelle Weber, who showed us the strawberry patch and gave us a few tips on picking the juiciest strawberries. And off we went! The boys had a blast trying to see who could fill their buckets the fastest (if it can be turned into a contest, they’ll do it!) while our two year old was more interested in eating the fruits of our labor than picking it. We now have over ten pounds of strawberries coming out our ears, so if anyone has yummy strawberry recipes to share, post them here!

First up – proof that I actually exist in this family!  I can count on one hand the number of pictures that I am actually in, and that number just increased by one!  Notice the clenched smile on my face that indicates that I am probably telling my children to “Smile…look at the camera.…stop moving….I said look at Daddy!!!!!”  Oh well, I’ll take it!

Next up – proof that I have more than one child – the 8 year old….

And finally, the happy (well, mostly happy – the girl is never thrilled about being forced to be in pictures with her big brothers)  strawberry picking crew!  Such a fun way to kick off the summer – be sure to check it out if you’re in the area!  Olive Berry Acres

It’s finally here!

March 10, 2010

It’s been on my to-do list for quite a while to start a blog for my business – it’s right in there with creating marketing postcards, folding the laundry, updating my website, cleaning the bathrooms, promoting my high school senior rep. program, organizing the basement – you get the picture….it was just one of those things that kept getting put off and put off, over and over again. But after meeting with some fellow photographers last week, I got the kick in the pants that I needed. And lo and behold, here I am!

So now that I’m here, what the heck am I going to write about? Well, this is a photography blog, so I hope to share lots and lots of pictures – some from client sessions (this means sneak-peeks for those clients who just can’t wait for their online galleries to be posted!) and some from my own personal life. I find oftentimes that when I put the camera away at the end of a session, that it doesn’t get taken out to capture those everyday moments in my own family’s life….you know, the ones that I take so much joy in capturing for everyone else. So this blog is for me too, in a way. I hope to share a side of me that you all may not see when I’m behind the camera acting like a total loon to get your three year old to smile – and I hope to journal those memories for myself, and for my kids.

I’ll also use this space to announce any special events, sales, contests, giveaways and other random fun stuff that comes up. So even if you haven’t had a recent session, you should keep on coming back, because you just never know when something exciting might be happening…(hint, hint)!! I’ll end this inaugural blog post with a photo – it’s an oldie, but a goodie – a photo I took of my three kids over a year ago. It’s still one of my favorites of them, even though I remember the whole painful process that went into capturing this particular moment. Just imagine a lot of jumping, yelling, threatening, and bribing – it’s a good thing that photographs don’t come with soundtracks…..

Until next time…..
